About PTA
Founded in 2009, Peace Tree Africa is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt nonprofit organization that exists to promote sustainable development in Cameroon, West Africa, through philanthropic endeavors, specifically by:
 
  • Creating employment opportunities in remote villages
  • Furthering education by building schools and capacity
  • Collaborating with locals to meet the needs of their communities

Our Vision
 
In collaboration with our partners overseas, PTA works to empower and promote sustainable development strategies in the most rural communities across Cameroon.
 
 
We envision a rural Cameroon that is everything its people want it to be.
How PTA Started
 
After completing two successful years of service as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cameroon, Tara Lynn Smith saw firsthand the needs of her community. Upon her return to the United States, she incorporated PTA to answer continuing needs for sustainable development, connect communities in America to those in Cameroon -- and live up to her title as Maveu Napteu ("queen of fixing things").
